Hi Christopher. Thank you for your email. I wish I could help but I didn’t know John Bird had been transported until today! I have very little information about this family. I know Walter emigrated to New Zealand in 1865 & the youngest boy David John Bird lived with his uncle and aunt in Shimpling until he died unmarried in 1905. I have never found either Charlotte or her daughter Harriet so I suspect they both died soon after John was transported. Sorry I can’t help further.
My specific interest is to trace the UK ancestors of one of my distant relatives, Henry Bird. His father might be Robert Bird !
To date I have established that Henry may have been born 1840 in Woodbridge Suffolk and died in Cape Town South Africa on May 1913. One of his sons His Arthur Evelyn Bird born in South Africa is my grandfather.

Hello
Do you have any information on Felsham farm labourer, John Bird [m. to Charlotte], transported to Van Diemen’s Land for seven years c. 1845?
Thank you
